In
1994 a dear friend of mine called me and said "Joanne, there's
is a dog you MUST adopt or she will be put to sleep!" I asked
"what is she?" and my friend responded "a Bichon" and I
responded back "what is that?" And so began my journey into the
wonderful world of Bichons.
I rescued "Sadie" a 2 year old Bichon who required immediate
expensive surgery to correct a hereditary condition, had an
undershot bite that was reminiscent of a bulldog, was long and
low to the ground, but I didn't care, I was IN LOVE!! The next
year I heard of an acquaintance who had a litter of Bichons, not
having seen a litter of Bichon puppies I went JUST TO LOOK, and
the next day I brought home Oliver. Oliver grew up to look and
act much more like a Maltese (very similar to the Maltese who
lived down the block from Oliver's 'breeder"), than he ever did
a Bichon but I didn't care I was once again in love.
Two years passed when I decided I wanted a "real" Bichon, so I
went to several dog shows, met some breeders and was told if I
wanted a companion female my wait might be up to a year, but if
I wanted a show dog, I could have one in just a few months. Not
wanting to wait I told the breeder I wanted a show dog, not
having any idea of what that meant. Enter Ch Kay's
Princess Cosette ROM, my first show dog and the foundation for
my breeding program. You will find Cosette in the pedigree of
every GloryB Bichon. Cosette is 14 years old now, having had two
litters, seven puppies and seven champions. At
the age of nine she was selected from the Veteran's Class as
Best of Opposite Sex at the
Bichon Frise Club of Northern California's Specialty. In
2005 she was named Dam of the Year
by the Bichon Frise Club of America.
Cosette is now retired and living the life of queen of the
house, a title she so richly deserves.
